A dad has scooped a £300,000 National Lottery jackpot after making a spontaneous decision to purchase a scratchcard during a routine trip to his local shop.
The Lanarkshire man in his 50s had popped in to pick up some juice when he opted to buy a ticket on impulse.
That spur-of-the-moment choice transformed an ordinary shopping trip into a life-altering moment.
The lucky winner, who has chosen to keep his identity private, purchased a National Lottery '£300,000 Birthday' Scratchcard for just £2.
When he scratched away the coating, he was stunned to discover he had claimed the top prize.
As he revealed the symbols beneath the silver coating, the magnitude of his good fortune became clear.
The jackpot win came as a complete shock to the Lanarkshire resident, who could scarcely believe what he was seeing.
He has expressed his intention to share his good fortune with those who have supported him over the years.

He said: "I've had people in my life who've been kind to me over the years, and now it's my turn to be kind back."
Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said: "What a great stroke of luck to buy some scratchcards on a whim and end up winning £300k!
"Huge congratulations to this man on his amazing win."

He said: "What a fantastic win for this lucky man, who can now pay off his mortgage and treat his family to some truly special holidays.
