EasyJet passenger reveals travel hell after airline serves him ROTTEN HAM on flight


An easyJet passenger has been "put off ham" after being served served a packet of mouldy meat on board a flight.

Idriss, 37, from Surrey, had been flying from Santorini, Greece, to London Gatwick on June 29.


Peckish, the dad purchased a Spanish tapas box for about £8 onboard.

But when he opened the package, he found the ham was covered in mould, despite the product being within its expiry date.

Idriss described the ham as "absolutely disgusting" - and shared images of the mould spreading across his meal.

"It was really awful. It is lucky I didn't eat it because with meat that's gone off you could likely be very sick," he told The Sun.

The musician admitted he inadvertently placed the contaminated meat in his mouth before realising just how off it was.

He said it tasted of "sewage" - and added that the smell was noticeable as soon as he opened the package.

"It did smell off, as soon as I opened it I could smell it," he explained.

A flight attendant offered a replacement meal, which he declined.

The experience has had lasting effects on Idriss, who spends more than £30,000 per year with easyJet due to work travel commitments.

"To be honest, it's put me off ham. I don't want to eat ham at all, it was so grim," he said.

"Imagine if I'd have eaten it. With ham, or pig meat you have to be so careful - I could've literally been so ill," he warned.

Following the flight, Idriss contacted easyJet via email to report the incident and raise his food safety concerns.

The low-cost carrier has since taken steps to improve its food packaging procedures, with easyJet confirming that corrective measures have now been implemented by its supplier.

A probe by the airline revealed the mould was caused by "a broken packaging seal", according to correspondence seen by The Sun.

In the exchange, easyJet told its 37-year-old passenger: "We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety across our operations and continue to closely monitor feedback related to food safety to ensure that all food supplied to our customers and crew is safe and of good quality."

An airline spokesman described the incident as "well below the standards we expect for our customers" and confirmed it had apologised to Idriss and offered a gesture of goodwill.
