Donald Trump’s son recalls horrifying ‘punch to the stomach’ as he watched assassination attempt with his children: ’I felt rage’

Donald Trump’s son has spoken out on the “rage” he felt as he helplessly watched an assassination attempt on his father live on television.

Eric Trump, Donald’s second son, watched on with his children as his father came close to death.

The Republican presidential candidate was targeted by a gunman at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last month.

Speaking on GB News, Eric gave Ben Leo an insight into his initial reaction as his father’s speech descended into chaos.

“I was on my couch with my kids. We were sitting there watching on live TV”, he said.

“I was working so I looked down on my computer and then I heard the shots. I’m familiar with that sound as I used to do shooting competitively and I instantly knew what it was.

“Then the rest was history. It was horrible. Aside from the fact that he was bleeding from the side of his face, he was wearing a dark suit so you couldn’t see if he had been hit in the torso.

“Also, there was a bunch of people around him. We don’t know if he got hit in the stomach, we didn’t know if he got hit in the chest and we didn’t know where it went on the head.

“It was a horrible feeling that hopefully no one will have to face again.”

Eric went on to claim that the incident has given his father a fresh perspective of life as it gave him a moment to reflect on “what’s important”.

“People are fragile. You’re not invincible. That certainly weighs on him”, he said.

“There was certainly a different aura after that shooting. It was a punch to the stomach.

“I was sitting there with children on my lap and they watched the near assassination of their grandfather.

“There are people who would walk to the end of the world for the man, they love him. They love our country, our constitution and they want what is best for America.”

Trump said on his Truth Social media platform that a bullet had “pierced” his ear before he was dragged to the ground by Secret Service agents.

One person at the rally was killed – former fire chief Corey Comperatore – and two other spectators were critically injured, authorities said.

The gunman, 20-year-old nursing home employee and registered Republican Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by the Secret Service.

It was the most serious attempt to assassinate a US president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.
