Child serial killer Lucy Letby deserves a retrial as the evidence given was “insufficient”, an online petition has claimed.
The petition, which received 1,690 signatures, argued the initial trial presented 17 victims as all the victims but the true number was almost double.
It was posted just months after the former neonatal nurse got a whole-life sentence for murdering seven newborns and trying to kill six more.
Signatures have claimed Letby is innocent and describe the 34-year-old as a scapegoat.
Petiton creator Ceri Morrice wrote: “A retrial should be ordered showing the original data, plus all the other deaths/collapses with full nursing/doctor rosters; regardless of whether Lucy was on duty or not, and regardless of whether 3rd party witnesses have defined the deaths/collapses as suspicious or otherwise.
“It is also pertinent that a statistical analyst should be called, along with specialist medical witnesses for both sides including, but not limited to, two neonatologists, two haematologists, two pulmonologists and two medical microbiologists, and an assured neutral party with historical experience of air embolism.”
Letby, who worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital, is already facing a retrial over the attempted murder of a seventh baby.
The 34-year-old is a category A inmate and started her time in prison at HMP Low Newton.

She was later transferred to HMP Bronzefield in Surrey.
Bronzefield is the largest female jail in Europe and was also home to serial killer Rose West and al-Qaeda fanatic Roshonara Choudhry.
A source close to victims’ families branded the campaign deeply insulting.
They told The Mirror: “A jury tirelessly deliberated for weeks and the guilty verdict was based on watertight evidence.”
Jonathan Storer, Chief Crown Prosecutor, CPS Mersey-Cheshire, previously said: "This is an utterly horrifying case.
“Like everyone who followed the trial, I have been appalled by Letby’s callous crimes. To the families of the victims - I hope your unimaginable suffering is eased in some way by the verdicts. Our thoughts remain with you.
“Our prosecution team and police investigators have my respect and gratitude.
“These convictions could not have happened without their dedication to securing justice.”
The child killer is set to appear in court next month in a bid to challenge her convictions after she was put behind bars following a 10-month trial.
However, if judges reject her application, her appeal process will come to an end.
